Anchor Point Alaska

The community of Anchor Point Alaska is located within the Kenai Peninsula Borough. The population of this community is approximately 1,845. Anchor Point is the part of the North American highway system that is furthest west. The name of this community comes from a story in which explorer James Cook lost an anchor when he discovered the region. Settlers began populating this community during the first few years of the 1900s and beyond. One of the main sources of economy in this community is its main body of water, the Anchor River.

During the summer months, tourists enjoy fishing the river for salmon. Coal can also be found in the Anchor River. Even clam digging is a popular activity on the coast of this community. When you look across Cook Inlet you can see four volcanoes. These volcanoes make up the Pacific Ring of Fire. Cape Douglas is also a landmark you might see from the beach on a day with high visibility. Many visitors come to Anchor Point because of the splendid scenery and wildlife. If this is your plan, a good place to start would be North Fork Loop Road.

North Fork Loop Road begins in the center of the community and winds through the surrounding hills. These hills are green and beautiful, and lead up to a point where you can see Cook Inlet. The road then drops down to the river lowlands and meets at the Sterling Highway. Close by is the Russian community of Nikolaevsk which you may want to tour. On your automobile journey you might want to have a photographer in the passenger seat as you are likely to see some beautiful sights.

For example, in Anchor Point Alaska you can find river otter and beaver who commonly swim in the river and can be seen on its banks. Other animals of the area include majestic bald eagles, moose, coyote, wolf, fox and both brown and black bears. These more exotic creatures tend to avoid areas with lots of people so you will be lucky to spot them. To plan your Anchor Point getaway, try researching online or consult with a travel agency. There may be other areas of the Kenai Peninsula you decide to visit also as this is a beautiful and charming area.
